Job SummaryLocal 949 Position: Technician BA - C&M Salary: $27.57 Work Location: Mankato (2400 North Riverfront Drive, Mankato, MN, 56001) Performs quality construction and maintenance on gas distributions system, propane-air plant and other related functions. Safely operates and maintains several types of construction equipment minimizing down time and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. To perform layout work required for the installation and repair of gas distribution system and related equipment. Essential Functions

  • Assembles, installs, repairs, tests and maintains the gas distribution system and related equipment, including but not limited to gas meters and regulators to assure safe, continuous service to customers. Responds to emergency situations to maintain public and personal safety.
  • Operates equipment/tools used in the protection, repair, replacement and installation of new gas mains and services, including preparation and restoration of the construction site for completion of assigned projects.
  • Performs routine operator maintenance on all equipment/tools used in and associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair and testing of the gas distributions system. To assure safe, efficient performance and minimizing down time.
  • Inspects distribution system maps and drawings to determine location, gas flow patterns and pressures, and to ensure that components used in repairing and adding to the system are appropriate.
  • Follows the Operations Manual procedures and inspects work of the crew for compliance with all company codes and those of local, state and federal agencies.
  • Performs other related tasks including, but not limited to, leak survey work, line locating, foreign construction work, store-keeping, meter reading, chart changing, transporting equipment, and fleet and facilities maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the work.
  • Participates in external and internal training, including online, field and classroom, to increase job knowledge and certify qualifications. Advises and assists other employees on-the-job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with internal and external customers. Education DescriptionRequires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling. Requires successful completion of a certification program at an accredited educational institution in natural gas distribution, installation and repair, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent technical skills. ExperienceRequires no prior work-related experience. Physical Requirements
    • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.
    • Able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver objects.
    • Able to walk, bend, kneel, climb and stoop on a daily basis.
    • Able to distinguish the differences between all colors.
    • Able to operate heavy equipment such as a backhoe and trencher. Working Conditions
      • Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as air respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs.
      • Able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and subject to call outs for work assignments at all hours.
      • Able to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
      • Able to be included in a random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
